The Moment Before

So here it is.  The Moment.  We’ve talked about how to prepare for it.   Regardless if you feel prepared or not, the moment has arrived and you are flailing.

I get it.  The intermittent feelings of horror and nausea.  The panic gripping you as you stand at the edge of a black hole that oozes depression, just waiting for you to fail and fall in.  I’m not speaking from experience or nothing (yeeeahh right, in fact I’m standing there right now).

I reeeealllly dislike (cuz I refuse to use the h.a.t.e word) Change. And things are changing.  So here is what I recommend we do when we arrive at that moment that makes us want to crawl up into a ball and, well, bawl.

  1. The Motion of Emotion.  So as you’re freaking out, treat every wave of panic, nausea, fear or mortal dread like a wave of water.  Let it wash over you, try to keep your head up, and let it pass.  If you fight it, go under, or hold it back, it will always take you down.  Don’t be afraid to feel.  That’s natural.  Just don’t hold on to it.  Let it go.  Often a better, more optimistic, you is waiting on the other side of that emotion.
  2. Remember your Sense of Humour.  Dear Lord will we all lighten up and stop taking ourselves so seriously?  Doing so doesn’t mean you’ll stop trying to achieve your goals or fail to succeed in the moment ahead.  It might mean you will possibly enjoy part of the journey!
  3. Don’t Decide How You Feel About a Moment Before You Get There.   What a waste!  You work yourself up into a right proper sweat, a little vomit in your mouth, and your obituary written in your head cuz you think you’re going to die, and you get to the moment and it’s not so bad.  Or heaven forbid you realize it’s not all about you.  Get out of your own head!  It’s messy enough without you enabling your nerves to freak out at every new experience, every opportunity to fail or succeed, every moment you put yourself out there, alone.
  4. The Moment Before.  On the cusp of the moment that you’ve been preparing for, remember this.  When walking into a room you must come in with something. Not with the nauseas, worried, I’m-almost-going-to-pass-out-and-I-want-to-go-home something. But the imagine-someone-told-you-the-best-joke-you’ve-just-had-a-great-laugh-and-you-feel-awesome something. Or you just heard a great secret that makes you the most powerful person on the planet.  Or you just saw the best video on how to conquer the world.  Walk in with that!  It may be imaginary but the energy you walk in with will be real.  It will be palpable to those around you.  And carrying in something positive will help you stand tall and achieve your objective.

I know this is brief but I’m going…to do…homework now.  EEeek.  Wish me luck.
